I was up praying and thinking about talking to you today about ‘Momentum Busters.’ Have you ever started out excited about something and before you knew it, an event stopped you right in your tracks? You were hopeful and full of faith believing that nothing was impossible for you until something triggered the pause button. These are what I like to call ‘Momentum Busters.’ You know, the enemy isn’t going to just sit back and allow you to fulfill your destiny without throwing distractions and hindrances to stop you. And, if he cannot get you to quit, he will do everything he can to slow your progress.
Momentum busters are anything that cause you to halt in your journey. They can cause fear, intimidation, discouragement, depression to all of a sudden rise inside of you. It could be a hurtful comment from someone, sabotage from a co-worker who is trying to keep you down and push themselves ahead of you, you giving in to the temptation of fattening foods while you are trying to lose weight, or an unexpected financial crisis. All of these are things that can hinder your progress as you are running your race.
Galatians 5:7 says, “You were running the race beautifully. Who cut in on you and stopped you from obeying the truth?” In this passage, it’s actually talking about the Galatians going back to living under the law instead of living under the grace they’d come to understand and receive. Why? Because some teachers started telling them that they had to go back and keep the law, turning them away from the truth that says it’s by grace that we are saved, through faith… not works. In other words, they were growing and succeeding and thriving, and then all of a sudden, someone said something to them that made them doubt who they were and what they had. It was a momentum buster.
Listen, you can’t allow someone else to come in and sow seeds of doubt in your heart, mind and spirit. You have to remind yourself of who you are in God. Remind yourself that you are in the palm of God’s hand and no one can take you out of it. Remind yourself that you are more than a conqueror. Remind yourself that you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you and that you are well able to do what God has called you to do.
I remember years ago, we were so happy to finally be making some progress with our financial goals of getting out of debt. And, then out of nowhere, we received a notice that several years before, someone never sent 1099′s for income we received, we never remembered it, therefore, we never reported it. Next, we discovered we owed taxes on the amount received, interest and penalties that accumulated over several years. LOL I can laugh about it now, but all I could do was cry then because I was several months pregnant with our first child and trying to figure out how much my life was about to change. We were blessed to pay it all off, but it did put us back a bit. It slowed our momentum, but we kept on going.
All these things can do is attempt to hinder your progress. They cannot stop you from fulfilling your destiny if you just keep going. Gal. 6:9 says, “and let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” Phil 1:6 says, “…being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” These things will come, but keep moving, never give up and get back up and get in the race. Soon you will feel the wind of God behind you propelling past all of the hindrances and obstacles and you will fulfill your destiny and come to a flourishing finish. Have a blessed, prosperous and productive day.1 Comment
